Appointment & Aftercare

Before your Appointment

  • Avoid eating a large/heavy meal before your appointment. Eating a light meal is recommended to keep your blood-sugar levels from dropping low.
  • Please don’t drink alcohol before your appointment, and we advise avoiding caffeine a couple of hours before your appointment too.
  • Don’t take any over-the counter painkillers before your treatment. These will interfere with how you perceive the pressure of the massage, and could cause damage to your tissue if you ask for more pressure because you are not feeling pain as much as usual.
  • Allow for at least 15 minutes extra time (30 minutes if you are a new client) for your consultation.
  • Don’t arrive too early. If you arrive more than 15 minutes before your appointment time we may still be treating our previous client and unable to come to the door and let you in.
  • Select appropriate clothing to wear. Dark and loose clothing is best. Our massage involves the use of oils, and excess oil that has not been absorbed into your skin may transfer onto your clothes when you dress after your treatment.
  • Remove all jewelry including earrings, rings, watches and necklaces. You’ll also need to remove face piercings if you’ve opted for a facial massage.
  • Tie or clip up long hair.

During your Appointment

  • You will undertake a 15 minute (or 30 if you are a new client) consultation prior to your treatment, during which time we’ll discuss your health and treatment plan for the day. Please answer all questions honestly, as this could affect the type of massage you can receive.
  • You’ll be asked to undress appropriate to the type of massage being delivered. However, client wellbeing is our number one priority, and if you’re not comfortable undressing to this extent, please talk to us and we can make adaptations to your treatment. You’ll also be asked to remove all jewelry if you haven’t already done so.
  • We will be out of the room while you undress and cover yourself on the massage table.
  • Privacy will be maintained at all times throughout the massage by the use of towels covering you.
  • While you’re on the table, please do provide feedback if something doesn’t feel right. If you’re too hot/cold, the pressure of the massage needs to be changed, you’d like to stop or change the background music, or you start to feel unwell or uncomfortable in any way, just let us know.
  • Relax and enjoy! You can talk during your treatment if you like, or you can simply let your mind unwind and enjoy the experience.

After your Treatment

  • Take your time getting up from the bed. Remember that your muscles (and mind!) will be more relaxed and you may need a few minutes to recover. Sit up slowly to avoid dizziness, and only stand off the couch once you’ve got your bearings.
  • Collect all your personal belongings from the treatment room, as for hygiene reasons we cannot keep items left behind.
  • Drink your complimentary glass of water before leaving, and continue to drink water throughout the day. This will help to flush any waste/lactic acid released by the cells of your body during your treatment.
  • Continue to avoid alcohol and caffeine for the rest of the day. Eat light meals and avoid eating red meat.
  • Avoid heavy/strenuous exercise for the rest of the day. Remember, massage affects the soft tissues of your body. Your muscles have been stretched and contracted, and generally given a good workout. Take it easy afterwards.
  • Don’t be worried if you develop a mild headache or mild cold-like symptoms, or feel unusually tired/sleepy. This can happen when metabolic waste products are released during the massage, and symptoms normally subside within about 24 hours. Drink plenty of water and have an early night. If you still feel unwell more than 24 hours after your treatment, please get in touch.
